LC-60LE550U vs LC-60LE650U; LC-70LE550U vs LC-70LE650U (Sharp LE550 vs LE650)

The main difference between the Sharp LE550 and the LE650 is the fact that the latter is a Smart TV, equipped with the SmartCentral platform, which provides you with a number of applications, as well as to more connectivity options.

  • The LE650U has a dual-core processor, while its opponent has a single-core one. However, due to the lack of any smart features on the LE550U, the less processing power is not a problem, especially because it doesn't negatively impact the picture quality.
  • The motion performance is identical on both series, except for the 40-Inch class model from the LE550 range, which has only a 60Hz panel. All the remaining devices from both series have panels with 120Hz native refresh rate, so they are equally suitable for sports and action-packed movies.
  • The LE650U has an Ethernet port as well as a built-in Wi-Fi, so you can easily connect to the Internet either using wired connection, or wirelessly. It's counterpart, on the other hand, lacks such capabilities.
  • The LE550U has one USB (only for service) and three HDMI ports. The step-up model has two USB (that support photo, video, and music) and four HDMI inputs, and more importantly: it supports ARC (Audio return Channel) and MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) on inputs number 1 and 4, respectively. Thanks to the MHL, you can connect your mobile device to the TV.
  • With the LE650U, you can also benefit from the AQUOS Advanatge Live support, including the on-line diagnostics services. There is also a dedicated Wallpaper mode, so you can select any image to be shown on the screen at low brightness level when you don't watch TV. Neither of the above is present on the step-down model.

  1. Thanks for the summary. Since I watch Netflix through my PS3, I'm going for the 550u since the picture quality should be the same and one less processor should reduce overall power consumption.
