E650i-B2 vs M652i-B2 (Vizio E vs M series)

Although they both have Full-Array LED backlight and employ local dimming technology, the E650i-B2 has only 6 active LED (dimming) zones vs 32 on the  M652i-B2. The effectiveness of the local dimming technology largely depends on the number of these zones, and the more of them there are, the higher the precision of its operation is. With 32 active LED zones, the M652i-B2 is able to come closer to achieving the goal of providing deep black levels in different areas of the picture, even with bright objects being present within the same frame. The M652i-B2 uses the Active Pixel Tuning for brightness adjustments on a pixel-level in order to further increase contrast. Considering this technology is omitted from the E650i-B2 and the active LED zones are only 6, the contrast is lower on the E650i-B2. The maximum brightness the E650i-B2 is capable of is 340 nits, while the M652i-B2 can reach 400 nits, which makes the latter more suitable for brighter environments. Vizio specifies the number of colors the M652i-B2 can produce to be 1.07 Billion, which indicates that probably a 10-bit panel is being used (although 8-bit + FRC can produce the same amount of colors). In case of the E650i-B2, the available colors are 16.7 Million, so the panel is likely 8-bit (or 6-bit + FRC).

While the native refresh rate is not specified, a number for the "effective refresh rate" is provided: 120Hz for the E650i-B2 and 240Hz for the M652i-B2. The former has a Clear Action of 180 while the latter has a Clear Action of 720. Since backlight scanning is utilized by both, the difference in the above index is most likely due to the fact the M652i-B2 has the ability to generate more intermediate frames (should you engage the Smooth Motion Effect option), which, in turn, makes it more suitable for sports and action movies.

Each has 4 HDMI inputs. The number of USB ports is differerent, however. The E650i-B2 has 2 while the M652i-B2 has only 1 USB port. Both TVs can be connected to either wireless (using the built-in Wi-Fi), or wired networks ( via the single Ethernet port). The VIZIO Internet Apps Plus suite is also present on either of the two. That said, due to the M652i-B2's remote having a full QWUERTY backlit keyboard on the one side (and standard buttons on the other), you'll able to type, search and find content quicker on the M-series than on the E-series, which includes a standard remote.

According to Vizio specification, the power consumption is considerably higher on the M652i-B2 than on the E650i-B2: 96.82W vs 77.6W, respectively. This may vary depending on the settings you've chosen for Backlight (not adjustable in all picture modes), Brightness and Contrast, among others.
